What We Loved About

  • The BIG Basket

One of the major reasons to love this particular air fryer is because the huge basket. You can opt for a 7-quart model to pack a lot of fried pickles and chicken tenders in there.

  • Quick Preheat Time

It only takes three minutes for this air fryer to preheat (faster than any oven). Therefore, you can have snacks air fried and served before your oven would be up to temp.

  • Intuitive Controls and Simple Display

The power and control buttons are easy to identify and operate (here’s what each button does). While Sarah recommends going through the manual before using it at home, she says that you won’t have to spend much time reading through the easy instructions.

  • Browning Power

The PowerXL Vortex gave many foods the great golden brown color we all hope for. Meatballs, in particular, browned up perfectly.

  • Easy Cleaning

Both the basket and tray are covered in nonstick coating, super easy to clean after frying up some of your favorite snacks. Follow these air fryer cleaning tips when you’re done.

Are There Any Downsides?

It might sound silly, but the biggest downside that our Test Kitchen found with this air fryer oven was the beep sound it made when the food was done. Also worth noting was that this air fryer required two hands to close it. This, of course, isn’t a big deal and doesn’t impact the functionality of the machine at all, but it does force you to put down everything to fill the fryer.

All About the Instant Vortex

When Instant Brands came out with an air fryer, we simply had to get our hands on one. If you glean nothing else from this story, this is the verdict: It’s a darn good air fryer. Anyone in the market for an egg-shaped fryer should buy this one. Here’s why.

  • Powerful

The first thing we noticed was the serious cooking power. The Instant Vortex 6-Quart 4-in-1 Air Fryer got food crispier than most of the other air fryers we’ve tried. Batches of store-bought and homemade fries cooked evenly, quickly and got super crunchy without much hassle. With this power does come some noise. But while this air fryer does make a noticible whirring sound when turned on, it’s not louder than a microwave.

  • The Roomy Basket

Many air fryers have downside in terms of basket size. Most of them only have room for two chicken breasts or a couple of servings of fries. Using The Vortex’s 6-quart ,we were able to air fry a whole pound of chicken, as opposed to the usual half-pound other fryers can handle.

  • Very User-Friendly Interface

The Instant Vortex has four pre-programmed settings to air fry, bake, roast and reheat similar to the settings of Instant Pot’s seven. The dial buttons in the center of the screen allows you to adjust the temperature in 5-degree intervals and the text is large and readable. Even for those who hate reading manuals, they wil be able to figure this one out. Even, the shiny black look and have heard that a stainless steel option will make you fall in love with it.
