With how our world is moving right now, it is not surprising to see more people getting conscious about their health, moreover with how our technology and knowledge is moving rapidly to answer the questions or addressing the problems we still have today including how to live a healthier life. We all know about exercise and eating balanced, more natural foods will be great for our health but, the cooking method actually plays a role as well into how the food supplies the required nutrition to our body.
Kitchen is often said to be the heart of the house because here is where food is being made so it is just normal to have plenty of tools here including appliances such as coffee maker and air fryer. Among the most hyped cooking appliances, we have an air fryer which seems to be the solution in order to limit the consumption of cooking oil which is not only high in calories but also not the healthiest habit to have if you are the type who love to eat fried foods.
They are very compact and modern, sitting on the counter top that you can use everyday to prepare food for the family. They are also similar to oven since it is not actually “frying” the ingredients but more of “baking” them in a hot chamber or roasting the food at high temperature. What’s different is probably on the heating element or where the source is placed as well as where the fan is or whether it has a fan or not since regular oven doesn’t have one.
Since the appliance and capacity is mostly small, they can heat up quickly as well as be easier to clean because what you will need to do is remove the tray and wash it like a washing bowl or plate; many of them can be cleaned with dishwasher too. The difference between air fryer and deep fryer is in the method of their cooking because there is no need to use oil here while for deep frying we have to put quite a lot of oils in a vat and then heated to submerge the food in the hot oil.
Depending on the amount of food and oil, you will need time to preheat them before we can put the food in. They can be dry on the outside while soft and moist on the inside similarly but if you make food that are coated with batter, we will need to spray some oil to get the same color, taste, and level of crispness. You also don’t get the same result of flour batter and wet batter when cooked with an air-fryer since we can’t cook “messy” food using them.

About NuWave Brio and Power XL
Based on the benefits and the type of cooking or food you will be making, we can use the air fryer for lots of dishes and most of us are going to use them for making finger foods such as French fries, nuggets, fish, or fried chicken. Heating up food like pizza can be done in an air fryer as well so the functionalities are actually very wide. If you are also planning to buy an air fryer, choose the one that is not only easy to use but also meets the cooking capacity.
In general air fryers are very similar to convection ovens so manufacturers can call their convection oven as air fryer as well since there is no regulation over the term but the typical appliance itself is usually smaller and more compact. NuWave and Power XL are two companies making some of the most popular air fryers today but depending on what you look at from the unit and which of them will meet the application the most, our choice may differ since there is no solid answer about the best product.
For the comparison, we are talking about the NuWave Brio and Power XL which don’t look like each other at all with one being a compact style air fryer and the other looking more like an oven or microwave. The one we are talking about here are pretty huge in capacity as Brio can cook at 6 QT (8×8 inch and 6 inch tall) and the latter is 12 x 8 x 10 inches in the cooking chamber. The functionalities are about the same but the cooking experience will be different for the two of them.
One thing better when you are going with a compact styled air fryer is the ease of use when cooking the food since there is no divider and no shallow tray thus, we can just toss the food around to even the cooking surface or to mix the seasoning if needed. But, with a flat and wide tray used on an oven styled air fryer, we can cook or reheat larger food, including whole chicken or a pot of your food thanks to the huge space inside. NuWave Brio and Power XL Design
The appliance itself is not large and probably about the same as your old microwave for the Power XL. This air fryer is about 15 inch tall, 19 inch wide, and 10 inch deep with the front transparent window opening downward. The material is steel with a stainless cooking rack and handle so the unit is pretty robust too. All of the controls are placed on the right side beside the window and there is no digital display here to monitor the cooking.
On the other hand, your NuWave Brio is smaller in general with an overall dimension about 11 inch wide, 12 inch deep, and 14 inch tall on the highest part. The control is placed at the top of the unit accompanied with a single small display to show you related information such as temperature. It is made of all plastic on the outside and a drawer style cooking chamber where you can slide in and out of the air fryer. Rather than traditional buttons, the unit has touch sensitive buttons to give it a more streamlined look.
NuWave Brio and Power XL Menu
Now for the most important part, let’s see what NuWave Brio and Power XL air fryers can offer starting with the menu first. Usually you don’t need any menu when cooking with air fryers since they are just like an oven so we can just manually adjust the timer or temperature to match the ingredients we want to cook but, having a built-in menu is just overall more convenient. Here Brio offers fries, frozen fries, nuggets, steak, poultry, and fish as their preset.
On Power XL, we also have some presets adjusted using the middle knob as you can find the function to cook pizza or rotisserie here with some cooking modes that we can choose between whether to air fryer, grill, broil or reheat the food. Besides cooking other meals, you can toast bread as well using this air fryer and we can even choose the level of brown using the first knob.
NuWave Brio and Power XL Timer and Temperature
Next we want to talk about the capabilities of these NuWave Brio and Power XL air fryers since preset is only convenient but the actual cooking capabilities is usually decided by how long they can be used as well as how hot the temperature is. For Power XL, the available temperature is from 200 to 450 degree Fahrenheit while the cooking time is only up to 120 minutes. On the other hand, the Brio cooking temperature is from 100 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit while the maximum cooking time is 16 hours.
NuWave Brio and Power XL Convenience
Lastly on the ease of use, NuWave Brio and Power XL air fryers are very easy to use because you can just adjust the cooking time and temperature for the ingredient and we are waiting for them to cook. The difference is probably on the type of food or dishes because we can’t fit a pot inside the Brio while you can still manage to squeeze a small one inside Power XL. In addition the function of a rotisserie is great if you often make the dish at home.
Nuwave Brio vs Power XL
The main difference between NuWave Brio and Power XL air fryers is their shape, menu, and heating element because the latter have two sides of heating element at both top and bottom while fan is located on the side of the cooking chamber as opposed to at the top for the heating and fan like in Brio. The convenience in making finger foods is probably better in Brio as we can just toss it and dial the proper setting but for making larger whole foods like pizza and chicken, the Power XL can fit them easily in the cooking chamber.
There is no bad option between the two but they are equally useful hence it is best to shop based on which seems to fit in your kitchen the most. If you will use the air fryer for making finger foods, the Brio is a more compact choice but if you are cooking a wider range of menus, we highly recommend the Power XL as it is more versatile.
